FORMER president is experiencing a spike in his blood sugar but is otherwise in healthy condition, his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, said Thursday.
Vice President Duterte, alongside her other siblings Davao City Rep. Paolo, Davao City acting Mayor Sebastian and younger sister Veronica, visited their father who is detained at the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, Netherlands, on charges of crimes against humanity due to his bloody war on drugs.
Speaking to supporters led by former presidential spokesman Harry Roque outside the Scheveningen prison, Duterte said her brother, Paolo, massaged their father’s feet because one of the former president’s feet had become “ashen gray.”
“We massaged him thoroughly to improve his circulation. We also massaged his arms, and his neck was massaged by Paolo,” Sara said.

“They want to decrease his blood sugar, so he was disallowed to eat, but he was allowed to drink Coke Zero if he requested it,” she added. `
Duterte said the visit of all four Duterte siblings began last month, when the former president asked Veronica, also known as “Kitty,” to personally talk to all four of them.
“We followed Kitty’s schedule as she has to go to school, so we joined her and we were allowed. We thank the ICC’s detention unit that we were allowed, all four adults, to visit him. They have a visitation limit, but they gave us a day to allow us four to visit the former president Rodrigo Duterte,” she said.
The vice president did not reveal what happened during the visit or whether politics was discussed, but she said that he was happy to see all of them.
The vice president said it was the first time all of them were together to visit their father.
The former president has been open about the different ail that he has been experiencing, including a case of buerger’s disease and daily migraines.
